Apr 8, 2012 - As the long drought in UFC events comes to a close next weekend, MMA fans will be treated to a thoroughly intriguing event in UFC on FUEL TV 2. This is notable for two reasons, not least of which is that this marks the UFC's debut event in Sweden. The most important consideration, though, is what the main event between Alexander Gustafsson and Thiago Silva will tell us about the future of the light heavyweight division.
Gustafsson enters this bout regarded by some as the next great UFC light heavyweight. The Swede has demonstrated a growing aptitude for the game and increasingly defeated better opposition, seemingly with growing ease. Muay Thai superstar whom we have known as Buakaw Por Pramuk and now goes under his real name Sombat Banchamek. Yesterday confirmed during a press conference that he will be taking part in the first event of the Thai Fight 2012 on April 17th in Pattaya. He also stated that during the Thai Fight series he will be fighting under his former name Buakaw but without the reference to his former boxing camp Por Pramuk.
Saturday night in Aalborg, Denmark, Euro Event, headed by Allan Martin Back, staged their first show ever. Topping tha card were Kim Poulsen and Kasper Bruun, formerly with Sauerland Event, both getting victories against Georgian opponents. Poulsen (20-1, 6 KOs) stopped Beka Sadjaia in two, while Bruun outpointed Nugzar Margvelashvili over eight to improve to 13-0-1, 3 KOs.
In the Bellator 64 main event of the evening, the Bellator welterweight title was on the line as defending champion Ben Askren faced off against Season 5 Welterweight Tournament winner Douglas Lima.
